Principal's Welcome
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year at Summit Hill Junior High, where our theme, Effort Elevates Excellence, will inspire everything we do. This year's message reminds us that excellence isn't achieved by chance- it is earned through consistent effort, perseverance, and a commitment to always giving our best. Whether in the classroom, on the athletic field, on stage, or through acts of kindness, we believe that every effort matters. Together, we will embrace this mindset as One District, One Team, working alongside one another to make this our best year yet!
In 2001, I began my teaching career in Summit Hill School District 161 at Indian Trail Elementary School, where I taught third-grade students in all core subject areas. After eight years at Indian Trail, I transferred to Summit Hill Junior High School and spent five years teaching seventh-grade reading and language arts. Once I earned my administrative degree, I knew I wanted to continue giving back to the community of Summit Hill School District 161- my second family. My administrative journey began at Walker Intermediate School, where I served as assistant principal for one year before becoming principal for the next five years. This school year marks my 26th year in Summit Hill School District 161 and my seventh year as principal of Summit Hill Junior High. It continues to be an incredible privilege to serve our outstanding students, staff, and families each day.
Education has always been a passion of mine, and I have always encouraged students to set meaningful goals and celebrate the effort it takes to achieve them. My own educational journey began in 2001 when I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education from Illinois State University. In 2004, I received my Master's Degree in Teaching and Leadership from Saint Xavier University, followed by my Master's Degree in Educational Administration in 2007. Throughout my career, I have continually sought opportunities to grow as an educator and leader so I can best support both students and staff. Those experiences have shaped my leadership philosophy—one that places students at the center of every decision while empowering an exceptional staff to help every child succeed.
While education has always been one of my greatest passions, my family remains my greatest joy. My son is beginning his freshman year in college and I couldn't be more proud of his hard work, determination, and accomplishments. My daughter is now a sophomore in high school and continues to impress me with her kindness, compassion, and positive spirit. They have grown up surrounded by the incredible people of Summit Hill School District 161 and remain two of our biggest Spartan supporters.
I am excited for another year of learning, growth, and celebration as we work together to show that Effort Elevates Excellence. Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Here's to an amazing 2026-2027 school year at SHJH!
